Abhishek Sharma returns to No.1 in T20Is; Marco Jansen becomes No.1 Test bowler and all-rounder

On Wednesday, October 28, the South African all-rounder Marco Jansen moved to the pole position in the ICC bowlers and all-rounders rankings after his impressive all-round role in South Africa’s innings and 31-run victory over Australia in the second Test.

Interestingly, Jansen scored 85 runs in the first innings of the second Test, which helped him to move 13 spots up to the 56th rank in batting rankings in Tests. Further, he scalped six wickets across both innings to emerge as No.1 bowler, becoming the first South African bowler to occupy the top spot since Kagiso Rabada in November 2024.

South African skipper Temba Bavuma’s 179 lifted him four slots to a career-best second position. He is now only behind England’s Harry Brook and has a chance to become the first South African player to top the Test batting rankings since AB de Villiers in November 2015.

In the T20I rankings, Abhishek Sharma returned as No. 1 in T20Is after his 35-ball century against New Zealand in Wellington, with his teammate Ishan Kishan slipping to third after occupying the top position for four months.

Sanju Samson has climbed six places to 20th, while Finn Allen has moved up three spots to 25th and Glenn Phillips has risen 20 places to 37th in the batting rankings following their performances in the ongoing series in New Zealand.

In the bowling rankings, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner has advanced seven places to seventh, while Indian pacers Arshdeep Singh and Prince Yadav have climbed six places to 15th and 19 places to 83rd, respectively.

In the ICC Men’s ODI Player Rankings, England batters Ben Duckett and Harry Brook have climbed six places each to seventh and eighth, respectively, following their performances in the Pakistan ODI Tri-Series, which also featured Sri Lanka.

Among other batters, Pakistan’s Shadab Khan has risen 32 places to 92nd. Sri Lanka’s Janith Liyanage has moved up 10 places to 14th, Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza has climbed seven spots to 20th, Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus has advanced 15 places to 45th, and the Netherlands’ Max O’Dowd has risen seven places to 55th.

In the ODI bowling rankings, Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai has climbed 13 places to seventh, followed by Namibia’s Vernard Scholtz, who has moved up nine spots to eighth. Sri Lanka’s Dunith Wellalage has risen eight places to 19th, while Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi has advanced 14 spots to 27th.
