“They will win the second Test also easily” – Ex-Indian selector feels India will clean sweep Sri Lanka

“They will win the second Test also easily” - Ex-Indian selector feels India will clean sweep Sri Lanka

Former Indian chairman of selectors Kris Srikkanth has asserted that India will run away with a 2-0 Test series cleansweep over Sri Lanka. Notably, his comments came after India bagged a 1-0 lead after a 165-run win in the first Test in Galle.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth insisted that Sri Lankan batters couldn’t go past 300 runs even after winning the toss and electing to bat first. While he acknowledged Lanka’s good efforts in ODIs, they aren’t on par with the visitors in Tests.

“India will win the second Test also easily as Sri Lanka are a poor Test side. Sri Lanka may be good in ODIs, but in Tests, they will surely lose the second match as well. The toss is crucial, but even if Sri Lanka win the toss and bat first, how will they score 350?” Kris Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.

In the ongoing World Test Championship 2025-27 (WTC) cycle, India will next take on New Zealand in two Tests away from home and Australia in five Tests at home. The former Indian batter reckoned that Jasprit Bumrah’s inclusion would play a crucial role in the two-Test NZ tour.

“The next two series against New Zealand and Australia will decide India’s fate. I think South Africa are more or less through to the final. Though India has historically struggled in New Zealand, this pace attack is potent. Of course, that’s only if Bumrah is there. If he plays, India has a chance in New Zealand. But without him, they’ll struggle,” said Srikkanth.

“Everything revolves around Bumrah. Whenever India has won big championships, Bumrah has been the key. India created fear in Australia only because of Bumrah’s bowling in 2024-25. India almost beat Australia only because of him. Let’s not forget that the Australians were scared to play Bumrah. The fear factor he brings in the opposition is something fantastic,” he concluded.
