Former Indian batter and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has slammed the young Indian batters Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal for their poor on-field behaviour, urging the ICC and BCCI to take strict action against them.
Taking to his official X handle, Manjrekar wrote that the ICC and BCCI are letting the duo repeat such behaviour by letting them get away without any major punishment, adding that it’s not good for the sport and their own future.
“Dear @icc & @bcci … Vaibhav for Ind A recently & now Jaiswal… if you keep letting them get away with such behaviour, you train them to repeat such behaviour. It’s not good for the sport & crucially their own future too,” Sanjay Manjrekar tweeted on X.
In response, former Indian cricketer and presenter Dodda Ganesh stood out in strong support of Manjrekar, stating that we are not far away from seeing cricketers involved in fist-fights on the field.
“Here @sanjaymanjrekar is absolutely right. Why are people trolling him? We saw Paras Dogra getting away after he head-butted Aneesh in the Ranji finals, with just a fine, and now Jaiswal too gets away with a fine. If this is the precedent we’re going to set, the days are not far away when we would probably see cricketers involved in fist-fights on the field. You can’t get physical in this game. Period,” Dodda Ganesh tweeted in response to Manjrekar’s tweet.
Recently, during the India A series, Sooryavanshi was involved in an on-field altercation with Sri Lanka A player Vishen Halambage following India A’s Super Over defeat in Dambulla in June 2026. While the Sri Lankan player faced sanctions, Sooryavanshi escaped official punishment.
On the other hand, Indian opener Jaiswal had a heated exchange after Asitha Fernando dismissed him on 45 off 53 balls on Day 1 of the second Test. The Indian opener lost his cool following a send-off and confronted the Sri Lankan fast bowler, resulting in a physical altercation.
Both players were found guilty of breaching Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. They were also handed one demerit point each along with the fine.
