IPL 2027: 3 Overseas players MI might release ahead of mini-auction

IPL 2027: 3 Overseas players MI might release ahead of mini-auction

Mumbai Indians (MI) had another poor outing in the IPL 2026, as they finished 9th with 4 wins from 14 games. Hardik Pandya led them in 10 games, while Suryakumar Yadav did so in four games as Pandya was injured. However, MI’s poor run in the IPL continued, and it was evident in the performance of the five-time IPL champions.

As the Mumbai Indians have gone through a major reset in the coaching department, expect a lot of changes, even for a single season in the players’ list. Here are three overseas players who might be released by MI before the IPL 2027 auction.

Here are the 3 overseas players MI might release ahead of the IPL 2027 mini-auction:

3. Quinton de Kock

Quinton de Kock played 3 games for MI, scoring 132 runs, including one century (112*), but his IPL was cut short due to an injury. With Ryan Rickelton already doing well at the top and with the keeping gloves, MI doesn’t need someone of the calibre of Quinton de Kock. It would be better if they released him and freed up the money for a better overseas pacer.

2. Keshav Maharaj

Keshav Maharaj was a backup spinner to Mitchell Santner, who, in fact, got injured after four games. However, Maharaj didn’t get a single game for MI in IPL 2026. Maharaj has shown his calibre in T20s with 194 wickets in 224 games at an economy of 7.15. He has 55 wickets in 54 T20Is for South Africa as well. However, the Mumbai pitch not favouring a spinner and the team combination meant Maharaj was warming the bench.

1. Trent Boult

Trent Boult had won the IPL in 2020 with the Mumbai Indians and then returned in IPL 2025, taking 22 wickets in 16 games, as MI made it into the playoffs. However, the IPL 2026 season was the poorest for the former New Zealand pacer, as he managed 2 wickets in 5 games at an economy of 11.62. The old swing of Boult was there, but the pace was down a few notches. There is a fair chance that MI might release Boult for someone younger in the upcoming auction.
