It was another heartbreak for Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2026, as they did well in the first half of the tournament. But all that good work went to waste as they finished 6th on the points table with 7 wins and 7 losses, missing out on the playoffs. They remain one of the two original IPL teams not to win the IPL, with Punjab Kings being the other.
The Delhi Capitals will be under JSW management, and they have already revamped the coaching staff, with Sourav Ganguly coming in as head coach. Expect some major releases by DC before the IPL 2027 auction, and we take a look at the three overseas players who DC might release.
Here are the 3 overseas players DC might release ahead of the IPL 2027 mini-auction:
3. Ben Duckett
Ben Duckett was bought for his base price by DC in the IPL 2026 auction. However, the England opener withdrew from the IPL, citing his domestic assignments as an excuse. There are chances that Duckett might face a two-year ban, and there are very low chances of Delhi retaining him for the IPL 2027.
2. Rehan Ahmed
Young Rehan Ahmed was a surprise pick by DC in the IPL 2026 tournament. The youngster got to experience the IPL, as he didn’t get any games to play in IPL 2026. He has a good record of 102 wickets in 112 T20 games and has also scored 1274 runs. He even batted at the top order in The Hundred, but it doesn’t seem that DC will retain the England leggie for IPL 2027.
1. Mitchell Starc
Another Australian, Mitchell Starc, might get released before IPL 2027, as the left-arm seamer might be busy with Australian commitments like the Ashes and the ODI World Cup in 2027. He previously was the IPL skipper for almost a decade, prioritising Australian cricket, and has made an impact in the IPL on his return, winning the IPL 2024 with KKR and taking 25 wickets across two seasons for DC. In IPL 2026, Cricket Australia mandated his workload instead of DC, and it meant he played 6 games, taking 11 wickets. DC might release Starc if he is not committed to the franchise for IPL 2027 and instead find someone else.
