Former Indian batter and commentator Kris Srikkanth has questioned the team management for selecting pacer Yash Thakur in the playing XI for the third T20I against Afghanistan in Delhi. Notably, the pacer replaced Arshdeep Singh in the XI.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth reckoned that it has become pretty easy to get an Indian cap lately, adding that it’s not a good sign. However, Thakur ended the third T20I with the figures of 1/17 in two overs.
“How can some random guy like him wear the Indian cap? If Yash Thakur is getting the Indian cap, it sends a signal that you are giving the Indian cap very easily to anybody and everybody. That is not a good sign. To play for India, you need some credibility, talent, and strong domestic performance,” Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
“It’s an injustice that Yash Thakur is playing for India. This is not, and it’s not fair or right. It’s not fair on people like Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Guys like Yash Thakur and Ravi Bishnoi are not even regulars in their IPL teams,” he added.
Further, Srikkanth slammed the hosts, Afghanistan, for their poor performances throughout the three-match T20I series against India. Notably, Afghanistan still remains winless against India in their head-to-head record in this format.
“After a point, it looked like the Afghanistan players were looking at the time and were ready to leave by flight at night. They got smashed so badly that they would have been happy to leave India. This Afghanistan side is terrible,” he concluded.
India swept the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan 3-0. In the first T20I, India secured a seven-wicket victory to open the series. They followed it up with another dominant seven-wicket win in the second T20I. Eventually, India completed the clean sweep in the third T20I with a massive 127-run victory.
