Former Indian all-rounder and commentator Irfan Pathan expressed his views on the Indian teen batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s bat flow in the third T20I of the five-match series against New Zealand in Wellington.
Notably, Sooryavanshi scored a 19-ball 45-run knock with four fours and as many sixes as he returned to the opening role after taking up the No.3 role in the second T20I. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Pathan revealed that the youngster generates tremendous power with his bat flow, keeping his head stable.
“You should never underestimate his bat flow. He generates such power that even a strong 30-year-old is not able to. He is able to do it because of the way his bat moves, and there is separation of hip and shoulder. There is so much movement in his body, but his head still remains stable,” Pathan said on his YouTube channel.
“He hit a big shot on the first ball and gave a direct statement to New Zealand that I may be a 15-year-old, but don’t think of me as a kid; I will attack you. When you score more than 20 runs in the first over itself, you directly put the opposition on the back foot. So, that first punch from Vaibhav was very important,” he added.
In the third T20I, New Zealand batted first and posted an imposing total of 198/3 in their 20 overs, with Finn Allen contributing 40 runs and Daryl Mitchell remaining unbeaten on 89.
India’s chase was largely one-sided, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashing 45 off 19 balls and Abhishek Sharma scoring a blistering 113 off just 38 deliveries. The duo’s efforts helped India chase down the target in 13.2 overs, securing a six-wicket victory.
The action now moves to the fourth T20I at Eden Park in Auckland on Friday, October 30.
