Former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer has revealed India’s playing XI for the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2027, which is scheduled to be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia next year.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Jaffer has backed the Indian talismanic opening batter Rohit Sharma to play a crucial role in the mega event. Notably, there were rumours of Hitman’s retirement from ODIs, but he dismissed all the reports with an exceptional century in the third and final ODI against England at Lord’s.
“It was a magnificent innings. The way he paced his knock was outstanding. Perhaps if he had stayed at the crease for another five or six overs, India could have won that match. But this is what Rohit Sharma brings to the table. I feel that a player of his stature should not be questioned. If he is motivated and wants to play in the 2027 World Cup, then I think we need to allow him to do that because he knows how to perform in big pressure situations, and he proved it once again. This is the Rohit Sharma we want for the 2027 World Cup,” Jaffer had said on his YouTube channel.
Later, Jaffer has slotted in Shubman Gill as Rohit’s opening partner. Moreover, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are slotted in the batting line-up. Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel are the all-rounders in the XI.
Moving further, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj are part of the pace battery. Additionally, Jaffer has picked in the attacking spinner Kuldeep Yadav as the primary spin option.
