Young and promising left-arm spinner Manav Suthar has opened up on bowling in tandem with the Indian veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja on the third day of the ongoing first Test against Sri Lanka, which is currently underway in Galle.
Speaking at the post-day press conference, Suthar has lauded Jadeja for his consistency in bowling wicket to wicket, adding that he would love to learn that aspect from the star all-rounder.
“There are a lot of things that I can learn from him. He uses the (bowling) crease so well. His consistency while bowling at stumps is world-class. So I would like to learn from him that no matter what the batsman is doing, how long can I bowl on the stump? Can you get a false shot? So there’s a lot to learn from him,” Manav Suthar said in the post-day press conference.
While Team India uses SG balls in the longest format of the game in India, Kookaburra balls are used in Sri Lankan conditions. Suthar has also revealed that he was practicing with Kookaburra right after the conclusion of the one-off Test against Afghanistan.
“I was practising with the Kookaburra ball after the Afghanistan Test. So, my plan was pretty simple to bowl in good areas, right length, right speed as the wicket here offers some bounce too which makes it mandatory to bowl at the right line,” he added.
Suthar was brought into the attack in the eighth over of the Sri Lankan innings, and he went on to scalp Dinesh Chandimal’s wicket off his very first delivery. Eventually, he ended the innings with the figures of 4/76 in 21.4 overs.
“It’s a very good feeling to get a wicket on the first ball. It gives you lots of confidence throughout the game, I was also playing in the County cricket (for Warwickshire). They bowled well on Day 2. They varied their pace and I feel that on this wicket, the more consistent you are, the more purchase you get. So that’s what we were trying to do,” he concluded.
