“Some things are just meant to be with you, it’s not to be shared” – Rohit Sharma on his unique century celebration

“Some things are just meant to be with you, it's not to be shared” - Rohit Sharma on his unique century celebration

Veteran Indian opener Rohit Sharma has revealed that the all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja told him how he should have celebrated his century in the second ODI against the West Indies at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday, September 30.

Speaking at the post-match presentation after India’s thumping eight-wicket win, Rohit disclosed that Jadeja wanted him to slide and jump as part of his century celebration. Instead, Rohit decided to do a small high-knee jog for a few seconds before punching the air in delight.

“Yeah, he (Jadeja) was asking me what that was about (his celebration). I said I’ll tell you in the dressing room. It’s for me. But he was quite innovative. He wanted me to come and slide and jump, and that’s how he wanted me to celebrate. I said, ‘Man, after 50 overs of fielding and batting for almost 25-30 overs, I was never going to do that,” Rohit said after the game.

“I keep that celebration for myself. Ah, it’s for me. It’s for me. Some things are just meant to be with you. It’s not to be shared. So yeah, that was for me,” he added.

In the 406-run chase, Rohit stitched a 255-run stand for the first wicket for captain Shubman Gill as India sealed the deal in 43.3 overs with eight wickets in hand to take a 2-0 lead in the three-game series.

Further, the former Indian captain opened up on the challenges of batting after spending 50 overs on the field, stating that he wanted to bring his experience of playing into place and stay as much as possible in the game.

“Yeah, again, that comes down to concentration. You’ve got to keep telling yourself that you do not throw it away, because the conditions are challenging, but that’s where I wanted to just bring my experience of playing for so many years. You just don’t want to give it that easily; try and stay as much as possible in the game, and we knew that the pitch was good, and we needed big runs from the top order, and that’s exactly what happened,” he concluded.
