Former Indian batter and analyst Mohammad Kaif has predicted that the Indian ODI skipper Shubman Gill will end his career with at least 10 double centuries. Notably, his comments came after his unbeaten 223 in the Guwahati ODI against the West Indies.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kaif asserted that Gill has a wide range of shots in his arsenal, adding that he has the hunger to keep playing without taking a break. Gill’s unbeaten double century propelled India to a comfortable eight-wicket win in the second ODI as India took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-game series.
“I think he will not stop at two double hundreds. I think he will play at least ten years more in ODIs and I feel he will end with ten double hundreds. He has a wide range of shots. The guy has all the shots. This is why he is scoring runs and has never needed to play the scoop, reverse sweep and such shots. He has a wide range in the V. He is not going to stop. He does not want to take a break and has the hunger to keep playing,” Kaif said on his YouTube channel.
Further, Kaif reckoned that Gill looked clueless and disappointed as a skipper when the West Indies batters posted 405 runs in the first innings. However, Kaif asserted that Gill displayed his true mental strength in the 406-run chase, indicating his hunger to score daddy centuries.
“I feel Gill is going to beat a lot of players. He will go ahead of many greats. I can see the hunger in him to score daddy hundreds. He knows that if he wants to get into that list of greats and also carry the responsibility as captain, he has to do big things. He was looking at the bowling while the West Indies were hitting and he was helpless as captain. In the first half, he was disappointed. But the result always comes in the second half. When he came to bat, he showed his mental strength,” he added.
