Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur has highlighted the importance of having veteran cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the dressing room to get a different kind of confidence for young cricketers to excel.
Speaking exclusively on Sony Sports Network, Thakur has insisted that for junior crcicketers to do well, it’s important to have the right mix of experienced and young cricketers in the line-up, when it comes to Tests and ODIs.
“We heard Axar’s [Patel] interview. He said that whenever seniors are around in the dressing room, the players get a different kind of confidence. When it comes to longer formats of the game, be it Tests or ODIs, it is important to have the right mix of seniors and juniors. We have seen this in all the great teams. For juniors to excel, it is important for them to get proper guidance from seniors,” Shardul Thakur told Sony Sports Network.
“With Virat and Rohit in the dressing room, the youngsters are expected to lift their game. And, as they say, you cannot buy experience in the supermarket. You only get it by spending years on the field. The kind of experience the team gets from Rohit and Kohli and the value they bring in the dressing room is unmatched,” he added.
While Rohit managed to score 11 runs off 21 balls with a four, Kohli could score only five runs off six balls with a boundary in the first ODI against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Tuesday, July 14.
According to a report published on TOI, the selection committee is looking to opt for a rotation policy for the veteran batters Kohli and Rohit. To keep them fit enough for the mega event in 2027, the duo is expected to be a part of the rotation policy.
