Former Indian chairman of selectors and commentator, Kris Srikkanth, has slammed the Indian team management, headed by Gautam Gambhir, for the mistreatment of the middle-order batter KL Rahul in the ongoing ODI series.
Interestingly, Rahul was slotted at No.6 in the batting order in the opening ODI against England. However, he was rested for the second ODI after suffering from illness. He is expected to be available for selection for the third and final ODI at Lord’s on Sunday, July 19.
Speaking exclusively on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth has asserted that when Ishan Kishan can bat at No.4, Rahul can also move up the order. He went on to add that the Indian team management wants to destroy good players’ careers.
“When Kishan can bat at No. 4, why not Rahul? This management is just finishing Rahul. They seem to only want to destroy good players. It’s rubbish that they send KL Rahul at 6 and 7. If Rahul is fit, he should be batting at No.4,” Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel, Cheeky Cheeka.
Furthermore, the former selector also emphasized that the veteran Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been completely sidelined from the 50-over format, as the selection committee is prioritizing the all-rounders like Suryansh Shedge and Shivam Dube over Jadeja.
“He (Jadeja) has been sent to the shed. I don’t understand why Jadeja isn’t being considered when they play guys like Shedge. They are developing Shivam Dube of all people as an all-rounder,” Srikkanth added.
While India started the ODI series with a six-wicket win to take a 1-0 lead in Edgbaston, England bounced back with a four-wicket win in the second ODI to level the series 1-1. The third and final ODI will be played at Lord’s, London, on Sunday, July 19.
