Former Indian chairman of selectors and commentator Kris Srikkanth has slammed the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir after India’s second consecutive T20I series loss, under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy.
Speaking exclusively on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth asserted that while Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson have been dropped after winning the T20 World Cup 2026, Gambhir should also be sacked as a head coach.
Ahead of the two-match Ireland T20I series, the selection committee and Indian team management decided to bring in Shreyas Iyer as the new captain, axing Suryakumar Yadav. Moreover, Sanju Samson has also been axed from the XI with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi making it to the XI.
Though Team India, under Gambhir, went on to win two ICC trophies, they suffered a lot of series losses across three formats of the game under his tenure. They suffered Test series whitewashes to New Zealand and South Africa alongside a 0-2 ODI series loss to Sri Lanka.
“Who is going to question him? No one. Can anyone ask him to be removed? They won’t and then day, two months back he won the World Cup. Then, Suryakumar Yadav also won the World Cup two months back. It’s a different yardstick for different people. If you are removing Samson and Surya, remove him too,” Kris Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
Notably, most recently, India suffered a 0-2 T20I series defeat to Ireland away from home and in the ongoing five-match T20I series against England, they suffered yet another series defeat after England took an unassailable lead of 3-0.
“He’s the one untouchable and is having a great time eating chickpeas even yesterday after the match. He showed no worries about losing. Despite so many whitewashes, he’s unshakable. He talks with no worries as no one can do anything to him,” he concluded.
