Discarded Indian veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar strolled down memory lane to the IPL 2013 season, when Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) locked horns with the Pune Warriors India (PWI).
Delving into the details of that fixture, RCB dashing opener Chris Gayle smacked a record-breaking 175-run knock at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. While all PWI bowlers turned out expensive with their spells, Bhuvneshwar returned with 0/23 in his four-over spell.
Speaking on UPT20 League’s YouTube channel, the veteran pacer revealed that Gayle started hitting after his two-over spell in the powerplay. He went on to add that the explosive batter was dismissed by the time he came back for his last two overs.
“I bowled two overs at the start. I don’t know how many balls Gayle played and how many Dilshan played. It was swinging a bit at the start. Normally I bowl outside to Gayle, and he leaves it, and it was like that. But he started hitting after my 2 overs were done, and luckily he was out by the time I came back to bowl. Yes, I have dismissed him. But it was his smartness that he would not hit when the ball was swinging and then attack others, and we got away in that,” Bhuvneshwar Kumar said on UPT20’s YouTube channel.
Further, Bhuvi also shared his views on bowling to the teen batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, stating that he was one of the toughest batters to bowl at. Sooryavanshi won the Orange Cap in IPL 2026, amassing 776 runs in 16 matches at an average of 48.50 and a strike rate of 237.30, with a hundred and five half-centuries.
“You can say that. If not the toughest, he is at least in the top three to top five, the way he is batting. To earn this kind of reputation at this age, it is a big thing,” he added.
