According to a report published on Cricbuzz, the IPL 2027 mini-auction is scheduled to take place in India, ending the trend of staging the event overseas. Notably, the decision was taken at the IPL Governing Council (GC) Meeting on Tuesday, September 15.
It’s important to note that the IPL 2023 auction was the last event held in India. The subsequent events were hosted in Dubai, Jeddah, and Abu Dhabi, respectively. However, the IPL 2028 mega auction is set to take place overseas.
“The decision is also in line with the assurances given to the franchises, who had expressed reservations over the logistical and operational challenges of taking their delegations overseas for a mini-auction. The BCCI members are believed to have considered their views during last year’s auction in Abu Dhabi. Accordingly, the GC decided to explore an Indian city as the venue for this year’s auction,” the Cricbuzz report read.
However, the report stated that the venue will be decided based on the availability of accommodation for the franchises and their delegations, as the BCCI requires more than 100 rooms for a couple of nights.
Also, the report further mentioned that the Governing Council left the decision on the Impact Player rule open-ended. However, a final decision on the rule is expected to be taken a bit later in the next meeting. Following widespread backlash from players and experts, the BCCI collected formal feedback from all 10 franchises on the rule.
On the other hand, the BCCI also announced that the mini-auction for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 will be held at the Grand Hyatt in Kochi on Wednesday, October 28. Also, the WPL official statement revealed that the tournament will be held from January 14 to February 7.
