IPL 2027: 3 Overseas players PBKS might release ahead of mini-auction

IPL 2027: 3 Overseas players PBKS might release ahead of mini-auction

Punjab Kings (PBKS) had an IPL 2026 of two halves. They were on track for playoff qualification with 6 wins in the first six games, but then one game got washed out, and their tournament got derailed. PBKS failed to qualify for the playoffs, winning only one of their remaining games.

PBKS management, consisting of coach Ricky Ponting and captain Shreyas Iyer, will have to redraw the Punjab squad for the IPL 2027, and today we take a look at three overseas players that PBKS might release ahead of the IPL 2027 auction.

Here are the 3 overseas players PBKS might release ahead of the IPL 2027 mini-auction:

3. Mitchell Owen

Mitchell Owen got only one game to play for PBKS, and he scored a duck in that game. Overall, Owen has a very good record in T20S, with 1813 runs in 96 games with a strike rate of 181.29, and also has 45 wickets to his name. His claim to fame was 155 in the MLC for Washington Freedom against MI New York. However, it looks unlikely that PBKS will retain Owen given that they have not placed him in the PBKS top order.

2. Ben Dwarshuis

Ben Dwarshuis also played one game for Punjab Kings in IPL 2026, going for 51 runs and taking one wicket. Dwarshuis has been excellent in the BBL and has even played 7 ODIs and 15 T20Is for Australia. In 201 T20 games, Dwarshuis has 258 wickets at an economy of 8.34. He is an excellent bowler, but with Arshdeep Singh and overseas slots taken by batters, PBKS do not have the luxury to retain him.

1. Lockie Ferguson

Lockie Ferguson played three games in IPL 2026 for PBKS but managed only one wicket. Ferguson is an ace pacer with 65 ODIs and 56 T20Is for New Zealand and has even played 225 T20s, with 257 wickets to his name. However, the pacer, who is 35 years old, has had a poor record of fitness, and despite having played 52 games in IPL, he has played more than 10 games only once, in IPL 2022 for Gujarat Titans. His injury-prone body and form issues outweigh his speed, and PBKS might not retain Lockie Ferguson.
