India defeated West Indies 2-1 in the recent three-match one-day international series at home. These matches were played in Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati, and New Chandigarh, and India pocketed the series by winning the first two games.
While there were some concerning issues for the Indian team after the ODI series against West Indies, there were a few positives as well. Hence, today we will take a look at three major positive things India took away after the Windies ODIs.
Here are the 3 major positives for Team India after the IND vs. WI ODI series:
3. Excellent experience for new players
India tried out multiple youngsters and newbies when it comes to the Indian pace contingent. Auqib Nabi and Anshul Kamboj made their India ODI debuts, while Ruturaj Gaikwad got valuable time in the middle. This helps the youngsters learn about what it takes to play international cricket and how to cope with the pressure. Their performance levels may also help the selectors have many more choices while selecting the team for the 2027 World Cup.
2. Indian batting is still performing.
Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, India’s top three, all made centuries, while captain Gill also smashed a double ton. Ruturaj Gaikwad made a fifty and showed good performance, especially in the third ODI, where batting was a difficult task. With the 2027 ODI World Cup still ahead, consistent performances from the top order will give the team management more confidence.
1. India now knows where it needs to get better.
The pace bowling department and lack of quality spinners to aid Kuldeep Yadav was a big problem, as India was without their first-choice problem. The biggest positive for India, despite poor bowling performances, meant that Indian team management now knows where they are lacking and can begin working hard towards putting these things right. They know they need Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh as their main pacers, with Harshit Rana, Hardik Pandya, and Nitish Reddy as well, when it comes to the pace contingent. They also know only one of Ravindra Jadeja or Axar Patel will go to South Africa for the ODI World Cup and have time to test both out.
