Former Indian batter and analyst Wasim Jaffer believes that the Indian leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi was pretty one-dimensional and predictable in the gold medal clash against the arch-rivals Pakistan in the Asian Games 2026 event.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Jaffer asserted that Bishnoi needs to bring in some variety and variation to be a consistent member of the Indian T20I team. Notably, the leggie conceded 44 runs without scalping a wicket in his three-over spell.
“I don’t think his performances were that bad before this. He played against Afghanistan and got consistent matches. The team management is trusting him. But I thought it was a very ordinary performance today. He is one-dimensional and predictable. He needs to bring in some variety and variation,” Jaffer said on his YouTube channel.
Shifting our focus to the details of the game, Team India batted first and posted a total of 211/6 in 20 overs. Opening batter Abhishek Sharma was the top scorer with 61 off 28 balls, while Tilak Varma also shone with 51* off 22 balls.
In the second innings, Pakistan scored 192/6 in 20 overs, losing by 19 runs. Middle-order batter Hasan Nawaz was the top scorer with 96 runs off 51 balls. Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube picked two wickets each in India’s crucial win.
Further, Jaffer highlighted a glaring concern in Bishnoi’s bowling, stating that he tends to bowl faster after he gets hit. Subsequently, he advised the Indian spin bowling coach to keep a proper track of such things.
“He tries bowling faster after being hit. That goes against him, as the batter doesn’t have to do much when there is pace. He should take some time and look to break the batter’s rhythm. The bowling coach needs to make him understand that he should not be in a hurry to bowl,” he added.
