England skipper Harry Brook, who attended the pre-match press conference at Lord’s ahead of the third and final ODI against India, has stated that he is not sure about Rohit Sharma’s retirement from international cricket.
Speaking at the press conference on the eve of the final ODI, Brook has heaped praise on the Indian talismanic opening batter, calling him a phenomenal player for many years, adding that it’s great to see him involved in the game.
“I’m not sure what’s been said about Rohit Sharma’s retirement. He’s been a phenomenal player for many years, and it’s great to see him still involved in the game,” said Brook in the pre-match press conference.
On Thursday, July 16, there were reports in The Indian Express stating that the selection committee had informed Rohit that the Lord’s ODI would be his last to give enough chances to young opening batters.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia, on Friday, July 17, has brushed aside all the reports of Rohit Sharma playing his final ODI at Lord’s on Sunday, July 19.
Speaking to the reporters, Saikia asserted that there have been no discussions with Rohit on him playing his last match at Lord’s, adding that Rohit will continue to represent the nation as long as he is in the scheme of things.
“There are a lot of speculations going on in the media about Rohit Sharma’s future. I want to firmly assert that there has been no such discussion that Rohit will be playing his last match at Lord’s on Sunday,” Saikia said in a statement to the media.
“Rohit is a regular member of the Indian ODI team, and he will continue to represent the country as long as he is in the scheme of things. In other words, the Lord’s ODI won’t be his last match,” the BCCI Secretary added.
