“Bhuvneshwar Kumar hasn't even thought about a comeback” - Ravi Ashwin opens up on veteran pacer’s comeback

Former Indian off-spinner and commentator Ravi Ashwin has asserted that the veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar hasn’t even thought about his national comeback, which was his mantra for success.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin reckoned that the ace pacer focused on doing well for his IPL side Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and left the rest to the selection committee without chasing the reward.

“I have a feeling that Bhuvneshwar Kumar hasn’t even thought about a comeback. I think this will be his mantra for success. And when I’m watching him from afar, I have also experienced this myself, he has gone on his own journey,” Ashwin said.

“He has focused on doing well, bowling well with the new ball and performing for RCB. Whatever he could do, he did it. His recall is the reward for his success. He never chased that reward; he simply did his job and success followed,” he added.

While Bhuvi, who last played for India in November 2022, made a comeback, Ashwin shared his views on another veteran pacer, Mohammed Shami, who last played for India in March 2025 in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

“It depends on the cricketer. If a player has the belief that he can return, then they have to work hard towards it,” said Ashwin.

Further, Ashwin shared his relationship with the Indian ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, stating that their relationship is very banter-oriented, joking and pulling each other’s legs.

“My relationship with Jassi is very good. We always joke and pull each other’s legs. There isn’t much conversation between us as cricketers, so our relationship is very banter-oriented,” he said.

“India has the ability. If Jasprit Bumrah is firing on all cylinders, he will have a good fast-bowling experience,” he concluded.
