On Sunday, July 12, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi as replacements for Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy in the ODI and T20I squads, respectively.
India will next take on England in the three-match ODI series, scheduled to start on Tuesday, July 14, in Birmingham. After the completion of the ODI series, India will tour Zimbabwe for a three-match T20I series later this month.
For the unversed, Rana felt discomfort in his right hamstring during the third T20I against England. Further scans revealed a Grade 1 injury, ruling him out of the upcoming ODI series against England.
On the other hand, Chakaravarthy reported discomfort in his left hamstring during the same match. An MRI scan disclosed a Grade 2 injury, and on specialist medical advice, he has been ruled out of the T20I series against Zimbabwe.
Both bowlers will now head to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) for further assessment and management. While Prince Yadav has been added to both squads, Bishnoi comes in as cover in the T20I squad for the Zimbabwe series.
India has lost a five-match series to England 0-4 after earlier losing to Ireland by 0-2. It’s important to note that India changed leadership after securing their second successive ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title earlier this year, with Shreyas Iyer replacing Suryakumar Yadav as the Indian T20I captain.
