On Thursday, July 23, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed that Afghanistan are set to host India for a three-match T20I series in Delhi in September later this year. The series is scheduled to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
According to a report published on Cricinfo, the three-match T20I series is scheduled to be played on September 13, 15, and 17. However, the official fixtures haven’t been announced yet by ACB.
It’s important to note that this will be the first time Afghanistan hosts the Indian team on Indian soil. Afghanistan have been playing their home games in India for a while now in Lucknow, Dehradun and Greater Noida.
Most recently, Afghanistan and India clashed against each other in a one-off Test and three-match ODI series in June 2026. Notably, India secured an innings and 300-run win in the only Test while they clinched the ODI series 3-0.
Meanwhile, India’s form in the shortest format of the game has been on a poor note. Their most recent T20I series against Ireland ended in a 0-2 defeat. Moreover, they also suffered a 0-4 T20I series defeat to England. However, they started the three-match T20I series in Zimbabwe with a 1-0 lead on Thursday, July 23.
On the other hand, Afghanistan haven’t played any T20Is since the T20 World Cup 2026 earlier this year in India, where they won two of their four games, but missed out on a Super Eight qualification.
This three-match T20I series is scheduled to happen between India’s Test tour of Sri Lanka and the Asian Games 2026, which starts late September in Japan. The second Test against Sri Lanka is scheduled to conclude on August 27, more than two weeks before the first T20I against Afghanistan. On the other hand, the Asian Games begin on September 24, one week after the completion of the Afghanistan tour.
