Former Indian middle-order batter Abhishek Sharma, who recently bid adieu to all forms of the game, has showered praise on the explosive opening batter Abhishek Sharma after his heroics in the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in Delhi.
Before the three-match series vs Afghanistan, Abhishek Sharma experienced a notable form slump, managing just 38 runs across five T20Is. However, he finished the Afghanistan series as the Player of the Series and the highest run-scorer, accumulating 229 runs across three innings at a stellar average of 76.33.
“As much as I know Abhishek, I don’t think he would be looking to prove anything to anyone. I think he probably wanted to prove to himself how he can get better. He is a very bindaas character off the field. I think the same character comes on the field too,” Rahane said on his YouTube channel.
“This will happen in the sport. People will talk if you do well or don’t do well. Abhishek is a mature player and batter who knows that the outside noise will continue forever,” he added.
Speaking at the post-match presentation after winning the player of the series against Afghanistan, Sharma credited Shreyas Iyer and head coach Gautam Gambhir for backing him during his tough phase.
“The way I play, it’s very important for the captain and the coach to be on your side. You have to get surety. I feel this is because of them as well. I feel I don’t want to restrict any area. It’s just watch the ball and play according to it. It’s very simple from day one. I just want to express myself. Just see the ball and hit the ball. You can’t be sure you’ll be doing well all the time but the culture we’ve developed in our team is to dominate and it’s been going well so far,” Abhishek Sharma said after winning the POTS award vs Afghanistan recently.
