Team India head coach Amol Muzumdar has opened up on the team’s decision to not collect the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 trophy from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, after defeating Sri Lanka Women on Sunday, September 13, in Dubai.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Muzumdar revealed that it was the stand taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the team stood by it, adding that winning the tournament only matters to them.
“That stand has been taken by BCCI and we stand by it. For us, this tournament is over, we are the champions. That’s good enough. It was on the big board that India are the champions of Asia Cup 2026. This tournament is officially over for us. We’re happy that we’re the champions and we look forward to the Asian Games,” Muzumdar said in the post-match press conference.
It’s important to note that the Indian men’s team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, also didn’t accept the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi in the Asia Cup 2025 campaign after defeating Pakistan in the grand finale of the showpiece event.
After India’s record eighth Asia Cup title, Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur showered praise on her teammates for putting up all-round efforts. She went on to add that setting up 184 runs in the first innings of a final is a big thing.
“I think we played to our standards because that’s what we discussed when we came here. We have certain standards, and we have to keep matching them every day. We are very happy with the way we all performed. And I think the girls have done fabulously well throughout the entire tournament. Setting 184 in a final, that’s a big thing,” Harmanpreet Kaur said after the game.
