Indian teen batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has opened up on his double-wicket over for East Zone against the North East Zone in the recently concluded quarter-final clash in the Duleep Trophy 2026 campaign.
After enforcing the follow-on, East Zone captain Ishan Kishan gave the ball to Sooryavanshi, who responded with two wickets in an over. Speaking to bcci.tv, the Bihar prodigy delved into the details of his over.
“If you ask batters, they always enjoy bowling. A batter bowling or a bowler batting is enjoyable for the player. Wickets weren’t falling for the opposing team. Thus, I was asked to bowl two or three overs. Ishan bhaiya felt like he was taking a risk by giving me the ball. But he doesn’t know that I am a wicket-taker,” Sooryavanshi said in a video shared by BCCI.
“In my mind, I only thought that even if I take five wickets, I am only getting three overs to bowl. I tried to bowl as best as I could, in one spot, and to finish my spell. It was a lot of fun because batting didn’t go so well in the last match, so contributing to the team with the ball was fun. When a batter takes a wicket, there is no greater enjoyment than that,” he added.
It’s important to note that Sooryavanshi made his way to the 2026 domestic season last week after recently being part of the Indian T20I team for the England and Zimbabwe tours. However, he failed to create an impact with the bat, scoring only eight runs for East Zone.
Interestingly, Sooryavanshi has picked up only four wickets in his professional career, and all of them have come in first-class cricket.
