Former Indian chairman of selectors and commentator Kris Srikkanth has shared his views on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting coach Michael Hussey joining England red-ball head coach Stephen Fleming’s support staff.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth advised Hussey not to join Fleming’s staff in England’s red-ball team. Notably, Fleming stepped down as CSK head coach, ending his 18-year association with the franchise.
On the other hand, there have been multiple reports of Hussey emerging as the new CSK head coach for the IPL 2027 season. It’s important to note that CSK won three titles in Hussey’s six years as batting coach.
“I would advise Michael Hussey not to make that mistake. He would be made to work with Stephen Fleming again. He should continue with CSK as they’ll take care of him brilliantly. Fleming has no work but to go to different places and call Hussey,” Kris Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
Furthermore, the former batter dismissed the idea of appointing former England captain Eoin Morgan as CSK’s next head coach. Under his captaincy, England won the ODI World Cup 2019, and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ended as runners-up in IPL 2021.
“Even we don’t understand what Morgan speaks; how will the players understand? He’s a very nice person, but just because he’s a good guy, he can’t be made the coach,” said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).
Additionally, Srikkanth requested the Chennai-based franchise not to appoint Hemang Badani as their next head coach. Notably, Badani has been the head coach of Delhi Capitals (DC) since the IPL 2025 season, replacing Ricky Ponting.
“With Badani as head coach, CSK will go nowhere. He was at the helm for two seasons with DC, and we saw what happened to them. Some relatively unknown Indian names should be given.”
