Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali has heaped praise on the Indian ODI captain Shubman Gill, who looked in excellent touch throughout the three-match ODI series against England, which the hosts won by 2-1.
Speaking exclusively on the Beard Before Wicket Podcast, Moeen Ali termed Gill ‘unreal’ and ‘different level’. Gill ended the ODI series as India’s leading run-scorer, amassing 188 runs from three games.
“The one Indian player that looked amazing was Shubman Gill. Some of the shots he played were unreal and of a different class. Among the young players they have, he’s at a different level. When you switch on your TV, you want to watch players like that,” Moeen Ali said on the Beard Before Wicket Podcast.
On the other hand, the England spinner Adil Rashid has lauded the Indian talismanic batting duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for making a world of difference with their experience and match-winning abilities.
“Kohli and Rohit make a world of difference with their experience and match-winning abilities. To have that made a big difference for India in the ODIs, especially in run-chases because Kohli is the GOAT and he knows how to pace a run-chase. And Rohit is a GOAT up the top,” Adil Rashid said.
“Once when we got 380+, even though their openers got off to a good start, they weren’t actually getting away from us. They weren’t off to a flyer where they reached 180 in 20-odd overs. We still had things in control but we just didn’t get the wickets in that initial period,” said Rashid.
While Rohit accumulated 175 runs from three games to end as India’s second-leading run-scorer at an average of 58.33, Kohli could score 144 runs from three games at an average of 48.
