Rohit Sharma to play Vijay Hazare Trophy 2026-27: Reports

Reports say Indian opening batter Rohit Sharma has told the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) he will be available to represent Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2026-27 season after the five-match ODI series against New Zealand and the three-match home ODI series against Sri Lanka.

While the Sri Lanka ODI series ends on December 19, the prestigious List-A domestic tournament commences on December 14. On that note, Rohit is expected to feature for Mumbai towards the end of the year as he needs to play the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, starting on January 3.

Following the ODI series against Zimbabwe, India have a packed cricketing calendar ahead, featuring the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy and IPL 2027. After these assignments, the focus will shift towards preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

“He has informed us that he will be playing for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and to consider him available after India’s three-ODI series against Sri Lanka at home. How many matches he will be available for, he will inform us later,” an MCA source told the Indian Express.

The league-stage matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy will be played across Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Ranchi and Rajkot, while Visakhapatnam will host the knockout fixtures. Rohit Sharma could make his first appearance in the competition’s fourth league-stage match against Saurashtra on December 21.

Rohit featured in the previous edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, marking his return to the tournament for the first time since 2018. He made an impressive comeback, smashing 155 off just 94 deliveries against Sikkim. However, the veteran batter failed to carry forward that momentum, registering a golden duck against Uttarakhand just two days later.

Mumbai will begin their campaign against Services on December 14, followed by fixtures against Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand.
