IPL 2027: Delhi Capitals appoint Amit Mishra as spin bowling coach

IPL 2027: Delhi Capitals appoint Amit Mishra as spin bowling coach

On Wednesday, October 21, Delhi Capitals (DC) announced the appointment of former Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra as their spin-bowling coach for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 season.

Mishra is the new addition to the coaching staff alongside former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who has been appointed assistant and batting coach; former India captain Sourav Ganguly, who was appointed as head coach; and former Sri Lankan pacer Chaminda Vaas, who joined as fast bowling coach.

Notably, Mishra, who last played the cash-rich league in 2024, represented Delhi Capitals, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants during his IPL career, scalping 174 wickets to his name, including a five-wicket haul (5/17).

“The OG Tiger has returned! Amit Mishra, our highest ever wicket-taker, is now our spin-bowling coach,” DC posted on X.

Interestingly, Mishra is also the only player with three hat-tricks in IPL history, each for different teams – Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in 2008, Deccan Chargers in 2011 and Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013.

It’s important to note that DC have made several changes to their coaching staff ahead of the IPL 2027 season. While Ganguly was appointed head coach, Yuvraj was appointed assistant and batting coach on October 13. Meanwhile, Vaas has also joined the franchise as fast-bowling coach.

Mishra’s appointment will be a major development for DC’s newest recruit, Zeeshan Ansari, the left-arm wrist spinner, who joined the franchise in a trade deal with SRH that saw T Natarajan move out of the squad. Leg-spinners Vipraj Nigam and Rehan Ahmed are the other players to benefit from this move.
