“If anyone has a doubt, main screenshot bhej dunga” - Mohammed Shami opens up on criticism around his fitness

Discarded veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has responded sharply to the criticism around his fitness. Interestingly, his fitness came under the spotlight after Bengal’s Ranji Trophy 2026-27 opening contest against Delhi.

It’s worth noting that Shami bowled 35.3 overs in that particular fixture, scalping five wickets across two innings. Speaking to Sports Tak during an interview, Shami stated that he will send a screenshot of his spells if anyone has doubts regarding his spells.

“If someone has pointed out that I bowl three overs, I have bowled spells of four, five, six, or seven as well. Perhaps it was not pointed out. And if anyone has a doubt, main screenshot bhej dunga (I will send them the screenshot),” Shami said.

Shami was rested for Bengal’s recently concluded Ranji Trophy 2026-27 fixture against Services. Despite his absence, Bengal secured a 60-run victory, registering their second consecutive win of the season.

Further, Shami dismissed the questions, stating that they were being directed at the wrong person and that there was little left to explain, given that the media closely follows and covers the matches, which are also broadcast live. Addressing queries about his fitness and bowling spells of just one or two overs, he said he saw no reason to elaborate, emphasising that his role and workload were determined by the team’s requirements.

“You are asking the wrong question to the wrong man. There isn’t much to say because you all are watching everything. The media people attend the matches, and almost everyone covers the matches. There isn’t much hidden; the matches are broadcast live. As far as the questions on fitness and 1-2 over spells are concerned, I don’t feel the need to talk about it because we do what our team demands,” he added.
