On Friday, October 9, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced that injuries have ruled Mark Chapman and Zak Foulkes out of the upcoming five-match T20I series against India, starting October 22 at Hagley Oval.
“While Chapman suffered a left hamstring tear during the European T20 league last month and is on track to be available for the ODIs against India, Foulkes injured his right hip flexor during a recent Canterbury Men’s training session, and his return-to-play timeline is still to be determined,” the NZC statement read.
“All-rounder Josh Clarkson and fast bowler Blair Tickner have been called in to the T20I squad to replace Chapman and Foulkes,” the statement added.
New Zealand head coach Rob Walter said he was grateful to be able to bring Clarkson and Tickner into the squad.
“I’m gutted for Mark and Zak and I wish them both a smooth recovery. We’re fortunate to be able to lean on the expertise of Josh and Blair. I know they’re both very excited to be involved in what’s shaping up to be an epic T20 series,” Walter said.
All-rounder Mitchell Santner will lead the 16-man T20I squad for the action-packed five-game series spread across 11 days in four cities. Batting all-rounder Rachin Ravindra, who dislocated his right shoulder during a promotional shoot last month, has been ruled out of the T20I series. Ben Sears was not considered for selection as he continues to rehabilitate his ankle injury.
New Zealand and India will meet at Hagley Oval for the first T20I in what will be their first face-off since the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final in March 2026.
