Former Indian opening batter and commentator Aakash Chopra has expressed his views on India’s 19-run win over their arch-rivals Pakistan in the Asian Games 2026 gold medal clash at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, on Saturday, October 3.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra asserted that India defeating Pakistan has become the norm. It’s worth noting that Pakistan last defeated India in September 2022. Since then, India has defeated Pakistan seven consecutive times.
“We were ahead by 10-0, now it would be 11. It’s like wake up in the morning, beat Pakistan, and sleep peacefully at night. That’s how it feels at this point in time,” Chopra said.
Shifting our focus to the details, Team India batted first and posted a total of 211/6 in 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma was the top scorer with 61 off 28 balls, while Tilak Varma also shone with 51* off 22 balls.
In the second innings, Pakistan scored 192/6 in 20 overs, losing by 19 runs. Hasan Nawaz was the wrecker-in-chief with 96 runs off 51 balls. Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube picked two wickets each.
Further, Chopra heaped praise on Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma for turning the game upside down in the first innings. Notably, Tilak scored two consecutive half-centuries against Pakistan.
“Abhishek Sharma once again showed why he is such a special player. Once in a while, even if there is some bad form, you want to be there and stand by him because he is that good a player. He scores runs consistently, and this time, he smashed them to his heart’s content,” he added.
“He (Tilak) loves thrashing Pakistan. He did it in the Asia Cup final, and here too. In fact, he scored 38 runs in the last 11 balls he faced,” he concluded.
