Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Subramaniam Badrinath reckons that Ishan Kishan should be back in India’s squads across three formats. Notably, his comments came right after he propelled East Zone to a title victory in the Duleep Trophy 2026.
Notably, Kishan ended the red-ball campaign with 409 runs from five innings, including a double century in the first innings of the grand finale against South Zone. In the second innings, he scored a crucial 80-run knock.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Badrinath asserted that it’s a matter of time before Kishan gets selected in all three formats of the game. While Kishan is a regular in T20Is, he last played an ODI in July 2019 and a Test in July 2023.
“It’s a matter of time before he is selected in all formats. He seems to do brilliantly when captaincy is given to him. Leadership seems to positively affect him, as we saw with SRH and now with East Zone. My mind keeps going back to the time when, long back, he was available in a trade and how CSK could have picked him then,” Badrinath said on his YouTube channel.
Further, Badrinath lashed out at the batting-friendly conditions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai for the Duleep Trophy 2026 final. While East Zone posted a whopping total of 708 runs in the first innings, South Zone could respond with 336 runs.
In the third innings, East Zone put up another big score of 388/7 before both captains settled for a draw. However, East Zone was declared the winner based on their first-innings lead. While East Zone batters had their fair share, South Zone batters couldn’t put up three-digit figures.
“It was too flat. Tilak Varma lost his patience and missed out on a century, which was disappointing. But usually, there’ll at least be turn for the spinners after the third day. However, I feel curators play it safe by dishing out flat tracks,” he added.
