On Tuesday, September 1, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s Men’s Selection Committee announced India’s squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, scheduled to commence on Sunday, September 13, in Delhi.
While Shreyas Iyer continues to lead the 15-man Indian squad, Jasprit Bumrah, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana and Washington Sundar have all been named for the three-game series, but subject to getting fitness clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence.
For the unversed, Bumrah injured his left knee during the third and final ODI against England and missed out on the subsequent Sri Lankan Test tour. On the other hand, Harshit Rana and Sundar had hamstring injuries during the England tour, with Reddy injuring his quadriceps during the Afghanistan ODI series in June.
Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel return to the squad after being rested for the most recent Zimbabwe tour. On the other hand, Rinku Singh, Prabhsimran Singh, Harsh Dubey, Suryansh Shedge, Ashok Sharma, Prince Yadav, Mayank Yadav and Yash Thakur have been left out of the squad that toured Zimbabwe.
Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who injured his hamstring during the five-match T20I series against England, has also returned to the squad. India will play three games on September 13, 15, and 17. While all three games are being played in Delhi, Afghanistan will be the official hosts of the T20I series.
