Former Indian batter and commentator Ajay Jadeja has heaped praise on the promising young left-arm spinner Manav Suthar, who scalped an impressive four-wicket haul in the first Test against Sri Lanka, which is currently underway in Galle.
Ajay Jadeja, while speaking to Sony Sports, likened Suthar to an unpolished jewel while terming the veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja as the “Kohinoor” of India’s spin attack. It’s worth noting that Suthar picked up 4/76 as Sri Lanka got bowled out for 284. On the other hand, avindra Jadeja scalped a three-wicket haul, conceding 57 runs.
“These are great signs for Indian cricket. We have praised Ravindra Jadeja a lot just now. He also bowls left-arm spin, but he is a totally different bowler. Jadeja is at the top of his career. This is just the start of his career, and we are seeing him outperform from now itself,” Ajay Jadeja said on Sony Sports.
Furthermore, Ajay Jadeja has also highlighted the advantage Suthar has bowling in tandem alongside Ravindra Jadeja. Interestingly, Suthar went on to pick a wicket off his very first delivery, sending Dinesh Chandimal packing to the pavilion.
“The advantage for him is that he has a senior left-arm spinner with him who has so much experience. If Jadeja is the Kohinoor, which is already polished and put on the crown, he is that jewel that will be polished now. We haven’t yet seen its shine,” he added.
India took an impressive 178-run lead after the spin duo’s heroics. Sri Lanka were all out for 284 with the middle-order batter Sonal Dinusha scoring his maiden century. Earlier, India were all out for 462, thanks to a 167-run knock from Devdutt Padikkal and fifties from KL Rahul (82) and Dhruv Jurel (51).
