On Friday, August 14, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the in-form batter Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of the forthcoming Women’s Asia Cup after sustaining a right hamstring injury on August 3 while playing The Hundred in the United Kingdom.
According to the BCCI media release, the BCCI Medical Team assessed Rodrigues at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and confirmed the extent of the injury. Meanwhile, Pratika Rawal has been named as her replacement for the showpiece event. Rawal returns to the national set-up after being ruled out of the recent England one-off Test with an injury.
“Jemimah Rodrigues sustained a right hamstring injury on 3rd August while playing in The Hundred in England. The BCCI Medical Team clinically assessed her at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, and the assessment confirmed a high-grade tear,” the BCCI statement read.
Rodrigues will also miss the Asian Games in Nagoya from September 17 to October 3. India will face Japan in the quarter-final, with a potential semi-final against Bangladesh or Hong Kong, China.
“Consequently, she has been ruled out of the upcoming ACC Women’s Asia Cup in the UAE and the Asian Games in Japan. The Women’s Selection Committee has named Pratika Rawal as Jemimah’s replacement for the Asia Cup,” the statement added.
The Asia Cup begins in the UAE on August 28, with India grouped alongside Pakistan, Thailand and Hong Kong in Group A. India will face Pakistan in the tournament’s marquee clash on September 5 in Dubai.
