India Women’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, after steering her side to a 270-run win over England Women in the Only Test at Lord’s, has hoped for at least 10 more Tests for her side in every calendar year.
Speaking at the post-match presentation after a humongous victory, Kaur has heaped praise on the top-order batters, Smriti Mandhana and Yastika Bhatia, for batting exceptionally well to keep their side on top of the game.
“God is a better writer and he has written it pretty well. Our openers have been our strength – the way they batted in the first half, it was special to watch. The support staff, they have played a lot of Test cricket and they know how it moves, and they are giving us feedback each and every moment. Really want to thank Amol sir and everyone else for the way we played,” Harmanpreet Kaur said after the game.
“That is why we put her (Yastika) in the eleven. Really happy with the way she batted. The way our entire team fielded, it was special to watch. As a team, we have been working very hard on fielding. Really happy the way our entire team fielded. Everyone came together and did the job for the team,” she added.
“Playing at Lord’s is always special. Really want to thank people who thought about bringing the match here and hopefully we will get more here. Hopefully, we will get ten more Test matches and we can keep performing,” she concluded.
Delving into the details of the game, India Women were tasked to bat first, and they posted 285 runs in 74.5 overs. Smriti Mandhana (83), Harmanpreet Kaur (58), and Deepti Sharma (57) were the top batters.
In response, England Women could score only 170 runs as India secured a big lead. Kranti Goud was the wrecker-in-chief with a five-wicket haul. In the third innings, India Women posted a mammoth total of 341/7 in 86.3 overs. Yastika Bhatia (113) was the top batter, with Mandhana smacking 70 runs.
In the fourth and final innings, England Women could score only 186 runs in 62.5 overs, losing the game by a whopping 270-run margin. Sneh Rana was the star bowler with a four-wicket haul.
